I play netball for the materials society netball team. We’ve grown so much as a team over the past year- our team is now so big we’ve got too many girls to bring to a match! We’re slowly climbing our way up the league table thanks to the girls’ dedication and team spirit!
A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to go to Premier Vision in Paris, showcasing the forecasted trends in fabric, trims and colour for S/S16. It was great to see all of the buyers in action and all of the different fabrics on show from worldwide designers and manufacturers. My favourite was the leather and fur exhibit. Over the past year I have been involved with the University of Manchester PINK Street Team.Victoria’s Secret is a brand I have followed for years so was over the moon when the opportunity to get involved came to campus. PINK is the sub brand of Victoria’s Secret with a target market of the collegiate girl in order to establish a brand loyalty early on. It is our job to support the brand ambassadors to promote the brand and the Trafford Centre Store. Here’s a little overview of the actives I have helped with so far this year!
During one of the focus groups with the team and head office we brainstormed how to get people to the Trafford Centre store. The idea that we went with was my PINK VIP bus which was promoted across all of the social media platforms. Not only did this gain interest but encouraged more people into store during the in store event.
Lots of other social media competitions have stemmed from my ideas too, including this one which encouraged people to promote the products as well as the brand.
Increasing and maintaining brand awareness on campus close to or during events is key to get high exposure, the Trafford Centre store always reports a rise in store traffic when we have high activity on campus.
The bra fit was one of my favourite events; a luxury cabana was assembled in our SU and girls were encouraged to come and get measured by a professional to receive £10 off of their next purchase. Competitions were running all day on social media to encourage people to come down and collect prizes where they too could be measured. The event was a great success with the cabana always occupied, over 100 girls were measured.
I’m currently helping with the recruitment process for next year’s ambassadors. I would like to apply myself in order to further my work with the brand however I hope to be on my placement year!
I recently got the opportunity to take part in research for a PHD student at The University of Manchester surrounding the effect of body shape on shopping habits. The first stage of the study involved getting comprehensive information on body shape therefore using a 3D scanner.
I was provided with a (very unflattering!) print out of all of my measurements and 3D image. I will keep posting further developments in the research.
This small charity is a favourite of mine. It promotes sanitation in communities in Africa and Asia with funds going to education and supplies including building toilets. Adequate toilet sanitation is categorical for community development and by providing these toilets in villages and schools it means that:
• more young women can attend school and remain in education
•attacks on vulnerable people are reduced
• drinking water is kept safe and separate from the sanitation systems
• Illnesses that are easily avoided are prevented
I have so far twinned two toilets, one in Uganda and one in Cambodia and aim to twin one more each year.

Marks and Spencer brought their Spring/Summer collection to The North last week, showcasing up and coming designs. I was one of the lucky few students selected to attend on behalf of the university, with a spot on the front row. The show featured items from their menswear and womenswear departments including the Best of British, Limited Edition and Autograph ranges.
The pieces shown conveyed a relaxed, yet clean and modern feel and really delivered on quality fabrics for day and night.
